Your New Role
Shearwater is a purpose built home for adults with dementia in Milton, Portsmouth. In this role you will use a person centred approach to look after the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs of service users. This will include personal care, assisting clients at meal times and all aspects of daily living. You will be key to specific residents, taking responsibility to ensure information about their health is recorded and communicated. This role will include some person moving and handling duties. There will also be the need for light food preparation.
What you’ll need to succeed
The ability to converse at ease with residents with cognitive impairment and provide advice in accurate English is essential for this post. You will need to be patient and have empathy, along with an understanding of types of dementia and physical disabilities. You should have experience in a caring role and understand the importance of resident’s dignity, privacy and choice. You should be flexible and adaptable as there will be some team working as well as working from your initiative independently. You will need good written skills and IT skills and should understand the cultural and linguistic needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
