Employees have access to our Employee Assistance Programme, providing you with free and confidential counselling as well as self-help workbooks, blogs, podcasts and debt and financial advice to help you in times of need.

You also have access to a wide range of information and specialist services. These services help to support health and wellbeing at work and home. They can help you with:

  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Mental health support
  • Stress awareness
  • Wellbeing activities including staff massages and wellbeing days
  • Your Care – an engaging online wellbeing platform that will allow you to be proactive with your wellbeing.
  • Online GP – This service can provide diagnosis and advice, as well as open referrals to specialist assessments and private fit notes and prescriptions.

  • have mental health first aiders and in service Wellbeing Champions
  • have staff support groups, such as a Neurodiversity support, Perimenopause and Menopause support, Carers and Staff Race Equality networks
  • are Disability Confident and we have taken action to improve how we recruit, retain and develop disabled people

As an organisation we are committed to supporting your personal and professional growth. All of our job roles provide a thorough induction process and job specific training.

We are dedicated to developing and supporting apprenticeships throughout our workforce and have a range of apprenticeship opportunities suitable for all ages and levels of experience. Apprenticeships allow our staff to develop the skills, knowledge and experience they need to become experts in their field and progress in their career. Whist our staff are training, we reimburse the cost of their professional fees if their role requires registration with a professional body.

Travel to work and parking

We offer various support to staff to help you manage the cost of travel and parking for work, including:

  • A Flexipass for use on the Park and Ride service making it easy to park out of the city, with buses running to the city centre every 12 minutes at peak times.
  • Disabled parking – the council has eight car parking spaces allocated for staff with mobility issues. They can also be used by visitors who are visiting the civic offices.
  • If you commute to work by bus, ferry or train, you can apply for an interest-free loan from the council to buy a annual season ticket
  • If you use your own mode of transport whilst on business – whether it be in a car, or on a motorcycle or a bike – you can claim mileage
