37 hours per week

Location: Beechside Short Break Service – providing care for children and young people with physical and or learning difficulties, including Autism and cerebral palsy.

What is the role

We are looking for a Deputy Manager to join our team at Beechside Short Break Service. 

Reporting to the residential manager you will provide care to young people with disabilities with a range of complex needs. You will work alongside colleagues and the young people to support the young people to achieve their specific individual needs and improve their future outcomes.  You will apply the relevant legislation, policies and procedures and guidance relating to residential childcare.  In addition, you will ensure that all staff members are kept up to date with changes to procedures within Beechside and Portsmouth City Council offering guidance and support to staff, particularly when dealing with incidents e.g., completing ABC and VIR records.  You will complete regular quality audits within the home and offer advice and supervision to staff members on the improvement to care practices and processes in consultation with line manager.

What you need to succeed:

You will have relevant qualification e.g., social work diploma/degree, a level 4/5 management qualification or be prepared to complete the relevant training to acquire the qualification. In addition you will have a good knowledge & experience of working in a residential/short break unit with children who have a range of disabilities, including epilepsy and autism.  You will also be required to have a good knowledge of a range of communication skills, e.g, Makaton, PECS and BSL
