The Service 

Portsmouth City Council’s Energy Services Team is responsible for the delivery of capital projects related to energy efficiency and microgeneration, procurement and management of energy and fuel poverty mitigation programmes to help the city’s most vulnerable households. Within the Housing, Neighbourhoods and Buildings directorate, the team comprises energy professionals, energy officers, graduates and administrative support.


Your New Role

The Energy Services Team are currently looking to recruit a Graduate Energy Offer to join their team. As the Graduate Energy Officer you will manage and support schemes which have been developed to support residents who are looking to reduce the amount they pay on their energy bills through behavioural and technical interventions in their homes.  You will be offering advice to ongoing schemes within the city and seek further relevant funding to manage delivery.  You will be mainly office based however at times may be required to make city wide and home visits if needed. You will work primarily on domestic energy efficiency and fuel poverty mitigation, however you may also be asked to work on other energy projects where required.   Within this role you will be required to competently manage projects, work streams and contracts related to the energy service that Portsmouth City Council offers.

The role is aligned to the Energy Services Team’s graduate programme; with the post-holder will be expected to rise to a full Energy Officer role if successful progression is demonstrated. A passion to progress in the energy sector is essential.


What you’ll need to succeed

  • A degree in a relevant subject area at level 2:1 or above
  • A passion to forge a career in energy, with a focus on domestic energy efficiency and fuel poverty mitigation
  • Knowledge of the energy industry, carbon and energy efficiency and renewable technologies
  • The ability to independently prioritise your workload to meet targets and achieve project goals
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to present and speak to a wide range of audiences
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent computer skills; particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Desirable to have a driving licence
