Miltoncross is an academy at the heart of its community that has very high aspirations for all of its staff and students. We operate by the core values of Work Hard. Be Kind. No Excuses in order to foster a learning community where everybody values each other and everybody values the power of learning.
We offer a supportive and collegiate working environment where we all have the same goal – outstanding learning for children. We are now one year into building a fresh, optimistic and sustainable culture where staff and students are always fulfilled because they know that they are doing their best work for the right reasons.
Our systems and structures are designed to liberate staff and students, freeing us all up from the challenges of uncertainty and relentless workload which in turn enables creativity, excitement and essentially, it makes coming to school enjoyable for all! To understand this better, do ask to read our Blueprint for Brilliance which outlines everything we do, why and how. This could really help you make an informed decision about whether this is your next career move or not. We think it should be!
Staff and students enjoy their days in excellent modern buildings with superb facilities. We are located on the West of Portsmouth and access is easy from the M27 or A27. Many staff commute easily from Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex either by car or by public transport.
The Head of the Alliance Suite is a new and exciting leadership post that would appeal to a colleague who is passionate about supporting young people for whom school can be challenging. It is a superb opportunity for an existing or aspirant leader who yearns to grow an alternative yet inclusive provision that blends mainstream learning with emotional and behaviour support, alongside bespoke curriculum design. It will be a provision that focuses on the very specific needs of individuals and works with them, their families, school staff and other professionals to bring about significant change in their futures.
The purpose of the Alliance Suite will always be to support a young person to reintegrate into mainstream lessons in some guise and at the right time. It will be designed to help young people navigate their education in a way that helps them live a fulfilled future life. The methods of doing this will be nuanced, flexible and supportive and will require a dedicated leader and thinker with a strong and unswerving moral purpose who holds the young persons’ best interests at heart, always.
The successful candidate will lead a team of committed staff who will provide daily personalised and positive behaviour support and intervention to those students most in need. These students often have SEMH needs and require support and guidance in order to empower them to better access their curriculum appropriately. You will want to explore alternative curriculum opportunities for individuals that motivate, inspire and create a sense of achievement and engagement.
The successful candidate will be expected to visit other schools as well as conduct research into successful such provisions elsewhere and apply the best practice they are seeing to our academy. You will receive full support and CPD to enable you to achieve our joint goals with regards to those students most at risk of exclusion.
If you’re feeling excited at this role and the potential of it, then we’d love to receive your application, whatever your previous experiences. What is most vital to us is that we secure the person with the right qualities, drive and ambition. If you’d like to discuss this post further or you wish to visit the school, please contact our Deputy Headteacher (Student Culture), Hayley Forbes at email@example.com
