Your New Role
The Hotwalls Studios are 13 working artists’ studios housed in the heritage location and Scheduled Ancient Monument on Portsmouth’s seafront, known as Point Battery in Old Portsmouth. Portsmouth City Council provides the studios to artists that need the space to grow their creative business in an environment of mutual support, creativity and innovation.
The Hotwalls Studios are managed by the Culture, Leisure and Regulatory Services Directorate. We work with artists to give them the usable space and business support to start and build their business and to be able to work as a professional artist/designer maker.
The Hotwalls Studios is a unique location that requires working with the creative businesses, the local residents, the on-site eatery, other studios and galleries across the region as well as the elected members to deliver a high quality cultural addition to the city.
Working alongside the Hotwalls Studios Development Manager you will be the key person in developing a wide and varied cultural events programme for the Hotwalls Studios to gain regional and national recognition as a creative visitor destination.
You will provide a great welcome for visitors and have sufficient knowledge of the Hotwalls Studios and Portsmouth’s cultural offer to successfully engage with the public and stakeholders.
A key part of this role is working at events and functions at both the Hotwalls Studios and The Round Tower, this will include physical element of events management and outdoor work.
You will also be assisting the Development Manager in the day to day running of the Hotwalls Studios site, and be based both at the Hotwalls Studios, the Civic Offices and remotely. The marketing and promotion of the events programme and studios through our website and social media platforms will be an important part of your role. In addition there will be the management of images and content for our newly developed on line gallery. We will require you to undertake weekend and evening working as part of delivering the events programme. There will be flexible arrangements when this happens for time off in lieu during the following 2 weeks. From May to August, the role will be full time and the remainder of the year is a 4 days per week post.
Who is the person?
You need to have:
- A professional but friendly demeanour when working within the team and external customers and experience in customer service.
- A keen interest in the working in the cultural sector.
- Have experience in delivering events including event planning and curatorial or exhibition experience is an advantage.
- A passion or involvement in the creative industries.
- The ability to work well within in a team and use your initiative when working alone.
- Good computer skills, including the use of social media and digital marketing, experience of using WordPress would be an advantage.
- Good English and Maths skills.
- Previous experience of working in facilities would be an advantage.
