We are looking to recruit Learning Support Assistants to provide high quality support, enabling students with a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities to access the mainstream curriculum across the college. You will be joining a well-established Additional Support team and will be required to provide assistance either at Levels 2 or 3 or a combination. You may also be required to provide personal care for identified individual students, as necessary, and this would be discussed at interview.

There will also be the opportunity to take on additional hours supporting some of our Adult Education students attending evening classes in subjects such as GCSE Maths and English.

Relevant experience is desirable and it is essential that you have achieved GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths in order to support students on Level 2 courses. For students following a Level 3 programme (A-levels and Vocational) we require LSAs with a minimum of an equivalent level of education.

Although Learning Support Assistants support students in a variety of subjects across the curriculum. You will need to be reliable, demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, have an understanding of the need to maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students and have the ability to work with sensitivity and humour. The successful candidates will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

Candidates should have:

  • Relevant experience of working with students / adults with learning disabilities and difficulties
  • Relevant experience of working with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and a range of different needs
  • achieved L2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (Grade C/4 or above or equivalent)
  • Advanced Level 3 qualifications required to support students on L3 programmes of study
  • good verbal and written communication skills
  • an understanding of the need to maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students
  • the ability to use, or willingness to learn how to use handheld technology to promote learning
  • the ability to work with sensitivity and humour.
