Salary: Band 4 pt 4 (FTE: £18,948) Actual: £3,316

Hours: 7.5 per week 11.45am – 1.15pm Mon to Fri – TTO (39 Weeks)

St Jude’s CofE Primary school are looking for a friendly, encouraging and positive person to lead their team of Lunchtime Assistants.

The successful candidate will ensure that the day-to-day running of lunches is a smooth event, making sure that children have eaten, been active and are happy. There will be a requirement to supervise staff, making sure that they are upholding the school values of Love, Honesty, Forgiveness and Hope and are engaging well with the children and each other at all times. A good understanding of the schools (and wider) safeguarding expectations will be essential as the school’s policies need to be upheld at all times.

Whilst each day will surely bring new challenges, there will always be a need to be welcoming and enthusiastic ensuring that pupils have a positive lunchtime and that staff are engaging professionally and positively with the children. Maintaining orderly conduct in the lunch hall and lunch queues, playground and wider school building is also crucial. We would expect the successful candidate to lead by example, jumping in to help with spills, cleaning, playing games, duties, covering absence etc. and encouraging the same of others.

Where there have been any behaviour incidences these need to be written up and recorded on our in-house system at the end of lunchtime and teaching teams liaised with as required, this is also the expectation for First Aid, as the successful candidate would need to monitor and manage the completion of the first aid register and where necessary liaise with the Admin team about children who may need to be sent home.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the supervision and development of Midday Assistants, ensuring that they are clear about what is expected of them, and that they are kept informed about their performance through appropriate target setting, challenge and support, as such improving the overall performance of staff in the team by maintaining regular communication and providing appropriate guidance. There will also be times when new members of staff will need recruiting and inducting into the school and opportunities during INSET to provide whole team development and training sessions.
