Your New Role
Strategic Developments is a team with responsibility for overseeing the development and construction of major regeneration projects in the Portsmouth area. This includes the City Centre Regeneration, Tipner and Horatia and Leamington, and the establishment of a pipeline of new development projects that will support the delivery of the Council’s priorities for economic growth, particularly in relation to housing delivery. This is an exciting time to join the Regeneration Directorate.
You will be working with Strategic Project Managers, to manage and successfully deliver complex, major schemes from inception to physical completion. You will lead specific work streams in support of the policies and aims of Portsmouth City Council. This will include working with an array of multi-skilled resources, in partnership with other agencies, to ensure capacity for delivery. You will work closely with officers, contractors and elected members to ensure that the highest standards are achieved within the constraints of time and budget.
What you’ll need to succeed
You will have an appropriate professional project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2 practitioner level) and membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. APM), or sufficient experience as this post is intended for post holders who have substantial experience as a Project Manager, are developing their career and have some excellent experience in the industry.
You will need to demonstrate you have experience managing projects within regeneration or the built environment, the ability to manage work streams within the built environment and/or regeneration projects from initiation through to successful completion and the ability to lead small project teams through delegation and management. You will have excellent commercial awareness and proven success of working within strict budgetary controls.
You will have good analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to prioritise workload in order to manage time effectively. This includes being able to work on own initiative and respond positively to workload pressures. You will have good and relevant experience of working with stakeholders, contractors and agencies and excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills to be able to deal effectively with members of staff at all levels. You will have knowledge and familiarity of Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Project.
