Job Profile

As a Senior Transport Planner in the Transport Delivery Team, you will be responsible for undertaking feasibility studies for transport schemes. You will be involved in the development projects and programmes that deliver the objectives for a greener, cleaner, and safer city.

What is the role?

In this job role you will be a part of the Transport Delivery team and be leading on the development of transport feasibility studies, with the aim of embedding sustainable transport, public health improvement and air quality improvement in all aspects of your work and undertaking technical work to develop proposals for transport schemes to be taken forward for delivery.

You will be overseeing delivery of these feasibility studies, ensuring that the requirements and legal responsibilities placed on the Council are met.

What you will need for the role

The post holder will need a relevant degree level education OR demonstrable equivalent professional experience. as well as, well-developed project management skills, including skills for coordination, liaison and progress reporting, and experience of transport scheme development and design.

Moreover, a good level of understanding of causes of air pollution and suitable transport-related mitigation measures will be needed as well as the ability to communicate messages (which may be complicated or sensitive) clearly, concisely and at a level appropriate to the audience, who may not be specialists in transport planning.

Be able to demonstrate high levels of verbal communication and reasoning, putting forward persuasive and compelling arguments, display excellent writing skills including the ability to write clear, basic and appropriate information for reports, articles and briefing papers including technical reports where necessary.

Also, experience of dealing with financial and budget management, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and proactively, along with the ability to prioritise. Able to make decisions and think through complex and conflicting issues, manage competing priorities, build credible working relationships, build rapport and negotiate with and influence others to develop positive partnerships with a range of stakeholders.

Also, an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft applications and general IT skills.
