Come and join the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership in this exciting role! You will take the lead executive role for delivery of the Solent Careers Hub and Network contract we have with the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC). The post holder will report to the Enterprise and Skills Head of Service. Careers and Enterprise Company Careers Hubs and the wider Enterprise Adviser Network (EAN) are the external infrastructure for delivery of The Careers & Enterprise Company’s objectives to improve careers education for 11-18 
year olds.

The CEC’s Network acts as a catalyst, connecting employers with schools and colleges throughout England to deliver world-class careers education. Careers Hubs build on the tried and tested model of partnership and collaboration where the virtual Hub is the centre point of a localised careers offer, accessible to all mainstream schools and colleges across that geography. Careers Hubs lead partnerships of schools, colleges, Local Enterprise Partnerships, local authorities, local businesses and careers providers, helping young people connect closely to local skills and economic need through a tailored careers education programme. Through joining a Careers Hub, we enable schools and colleges to receive professional guidance in how to develop their careers programme, peer to peer support and learning in what works, access to funding and coordinated activity. The Hubs are incubators for innovation, taking our national mantra of test, learn and adapt and applying that locally. Nationally, CEC has created a network of Careers Hubs, bringing together the Hub leaders regularly to review progress, share good practice, collaborate and innovate. All of which is accelerating progress rapidly.

Solent LEP

Established in 2010, Solent LEP is a business-led collaboration between private, public and education sectors across the Solent. Of the 38 LEPs across England, Solent LEP represents one of the most significant coastal gateway regions in the country, and is responsible for securing and investing large amounts of public and private sector funding in ambitious projects to create new businesses, jobs and 
homes. The LEP also delivers a range service programmes under contract, including the Solent Growth Hub and the LEP’s Careers function. Since its formation Solent LEP has benefitted from business expertise and acumen. We have created a new partnership between the public, private and academic sectors in the Solent that represents the diversity of local businesses and communities.

Solent LEP prioritises policies and actions on the basis of clear economic evidence and intelligence from businesses and local communities. Our interventions are designed to improve productivity across the local economy to benefit people and communities with the aim of creating more inclusive economies. As an organisation, Solent LEP prides itself on demonstrating innovation, passion and 
commitment for the region by working in a collaborative and inclusive manner with its complex and varied stakeholder networks. Solent LEP are also a regional member of Maritime UK who are the collective voice for the UK’s maritime industries. To date Solent LEP have provided a regional voice for the Solent maritime sector by establishing Maritime UK Solent as a forum to allow the industry in our area to come together and we currently provide support to the careers and outreach programme of Maritime UK. In February 2021 the LEP Board approved the principle of establishing MUK Solent as a Private Limited Company by Guarantee and Maritime UK Solent Limited are now a wholly owned subsidiary of Solent Local Enterprise Partnership Limited. This ensures that the LEP can build on work to date, retaining strategic control of the activity and establish a vehicle through which future sector focussed activity can be delivered.

A Government-led review of LEP activity is also currently underway and expected to report in autumn 2021 and the post holder will be required to proactively support the re-set of the LEP Executive to respond to this review. The postholder will play a role in delivering the organisation’s “ambition to create a dynamic, vibrant, inclusive and internationally competitive region” and take responsibility for managing LEP activity in the enterprise and skills areas. The Enterprise and Skills service sits within the directorate of the 
Business Development Director, which provides leadership on strategy for the LEP, and the development of the LEP’s economic strategy, which is a critical strategic document for the Solent area.
