Salary: Band 5 £20,512 – £22,223 Pro rata – plus 7.5% – 17% shift enhancement depending on rota

Contract: Permanent and some Casual posts available

Hours: Average of 30 hours per week

Typically working a 2-week rota. Shifts may range from 6am – 10pm. Shift pattern may include working every other weekend and will include bank holiday working. Part time hours are available.

Your New Role

Russets is a purpose built service in Hilsea that provides respite care for adults who have learning disabilities and live within the area of Portsmouth.  In addition to this Russets also provide adults with a learning disability with residential accommodation. Russets is the only unit of its kind in Portsmouth. We currently have vacancies in both our Respite Service and our Residential service.

Using a person centred approach you will support people to fulfil their emotional, cultural, physical and social needs. This will include personal care, assisting people at meal times and supporting individuals with all aspects of their daily living. You will also enable people to develop their social networks and participate in social activities. You will be a key worker to individuals, taking responsibility for keeping care plans up to date and for ensuring that individual needs are met. You will have the opportunity to support a diverse group of people with a wide range of care needs. This role will include moving and handling duties.  This role will include supporting individuals who may challenge the service.


What you’ll need to succeed

You will need to have the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English, as well as an understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities. You will have experience in a caring role or working with learning difficulties, as well as an understanding of the importance of individual dignity, privacy and choice. You will be flexibility and adaptable and to work as part of a team or from your own initiative. You will have good communication skills and an understanding of cultural and linguistic needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds. You will have a willingness to take part in training and personal development.

You will have a willingness to become competent in the administration of medication and have the ability deal with emergencies in a confident matter. You will be able to monitor and produce accurate records, and have an understanding of the principles of client confidentiality and data protection.
