Our commitment
At Portsmouth City Council we are committed to ensuring a transparent and fair recruitment process for every candidate at every level. We value diversity and inclusion and provide equal opportunity to all. We adhere to the Equality Act 2010, in all our employment policies and procedures as well as having due regard to the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination and advance equality of opportunity.
This is why we have adopted an anonymous recruitment process.
What does anonymised recruitment mean for me as a candidate?
When we receive your application, all personal details including name, date of birth, nationality, contact information and address are all anonymised. Our hiring managers will review your skills, qualifications and experience alongside your personal statement to determine your suitability for the role. After shortlisting has taken place and invitations to interview have been sent out, your personal details will then become visible.
To help us maintain this commitment, we do not accept CVs and ask all candidates to create a profile through our careers portal using the profile builder tool.
Top tip: Please do not put any personal information in your personal statement and ensure your statement demonstrates how your experience and skills meet the ‘who is this person’ section of the job you are applying for.
Applying for a role with us
When you apply for a role with us, you will be asked to create a profile using our Profile Builder. This will allow you to log back in, update your details, track your existing applications, complete any tasks assigned to you, and apply for other roles with us. As part of the application process, you will need to demonstrate you have the Right to Work in the UK.
As part of your application, you will be required to write a personal statement.
Top tip: this should demonstrate how your experience and skills meet the ‘who is this person’
section of the job you are applying for. Once you have applied for a role with us, please monitor your emails for updates.
Shortlisting
Once our advert reaches the closing date, the hiring manager will assess your application against the job profile. The panel will not see any of your personal information, to aid our anonymous application process. Once shortlisting is completed, you will receive an email confirming if you have been progressed to the interview process.
Interviewing
If you are successfully shortlisted, we will invite you to attend an interview with us, which will usually be in person, but on occasions, may take place online via Microsoft Teams. Once you have logged into your candidate account and selected an interview slot, you will receive an email. This will confirm the date, time, location and those on the interview panel, as well as whether there is anything you need to prepare prior to your interview. If you require any reasonable adjustments, please contact our recruitment team as soon as possible.
We will contact you confirming the outcome of your interview. If you have not been successful on this occasion, you can ask for feedback to help with future applications.
Conditional Offer and Pre-employment Checks
If you are successful, we will send your conditional offer and information relating to any pre-employment checks that need to be completed. These will be dependent on the role you have been offered.
Contract of employment
On completion of satisfactory pre-employment checks, we will contact you to confirm your start date. You will then receive your contract of employment which you should read and sign to confirm your acceptance of the role.
Support
If you require any support with the application process, please contact 02392 616 800 or email recruit@portsmouthcc.gov.uk and one of the recruitment team will be more than happy to assist.
